Prof. Dr. Karin Coninx
Karin is a full time professor at Hasselt University (Belgium) since 1998, and in that capacity lectures on various general Computer Science subjects and specialized subjects related to man-machine interaction. Karin Coninx gained a Ph.D in Computer Science following a study into Human-Computer Interaction in immersive virtual environments.
As group leader of the human-computer interaction group of the Expertise Centre for Digital Media at the Hasselt University, she guides between 25 and 30 researchers, 10 of which are PhD students. She is responsible for various research projects relating to (multimodal) interaction in virtual environments, mobile and context-sensitive systems, interactive work spaces, user-centered software engineering and the model-based realization of user interfaces.
Besides leading the HCI group in EDM, Karin Coninx takes management responsibility in the management board of EDM and in Hasselt University. Previously being head of the department Mathematics-Physics-Computer Science, she is currently engaged as Vice-Dean of the Faculty of Sciences in Hasselt University.
Prof. Dr. Kris Luyten
Kris is a professor at Hasselt University (Belgium), where he is member of the researchinstitute Expertise Centre for Digital Media. He received his PhD (2004) from the same university in which he specialized in engineering interactive systems for heterogeneous environments. His main research interests lies in Human-Computer Interaction, more specifically he works on Context-Aware User Interfaces, User Interface>Description Languages, Model-Based and User-Centered Interface Development, Multitouch Interaction, Mobile Guides, Ubiquitous Computing and Social and Collaborative Software. He teaches courses on information visualisation, pervasive computing, software engineering and operating systems (among others).<
Kris Gabriëls
Kris became Master in Musicology at K.U.Leuven in 2001 and gained her teacher’s degree in 2003. In 2006, she became Master in Computer Science at Hasselt University and is working since as a researcher on several cultural and heritage projects.
Elke Manshoven
Elke became Master in History in 1997 and obtained a teacher’s degree in the same year, both at KULeuven. She als holds a degree in Pr and communication sciences from Hasselt University and is a certified nature guide. She works as education expert at the Provincial Gallo-Roman Museum of Tongres.
Karel Robert
Karel studied graphic design at Sint-Lukas Academy in Brussels. For iDiscover, he focuses on visualization of historical information and game concepts. He mends them playfully in shapes that make a perfect fit for different target groups. He specializes in graphic design for mobile computers with limited screen sizes and resolution. Jolien Schroyen
Jolien is a researcher and educational assistant at the Expertise Centre for Digital Media (Hasselt University). Her main research focuses on ways to use mobile ICT to enhance the visitor experience at various heritage and cultural sites or institutions. She contributed to the ARCHIE and iDiscover projects, where mobile ICT is put to use to support personally meaningful, social and interactive visitor experiences. Jolien holds a master's degree in History and an abridged bachelor degree in Theology and Religious Studies. Before joining the Expertise Centre for Digital Media, she worked several years as a teacher and a teacher trainer
Daniël Teunkens
Since his graduation in 2000, Daniël is researching all kinds of computer science-stuff in the Expertise Centre for Digital Media (Hasselt University). He's been active in the field of mobile devices since 2005. His job is to figure out how to actually implement all those social and interactive visitor guides and tours everybody is talking about.
Maarten van Meer
Maarten holds master degrees in sociology and cultural studies. He has work experience as an editor, programmer and researcher for several media- and cultural institutions. He started in February 2009 as communication assistant for iDiscover.
